Over the summer we’ve seen a lot of great trades in the NBA starting with Paul George, Isaiah Thomas, Kyrie Irving, Carmelo Anthony and many more. With all of this free agent movement allow me to give you a few predictions and reasoning of why I believe The Oklahoma City Thunder will take home the championship in the 2017-18 NBA season.

First, let me start out by saying OKC had a great season last year without having a lot of great players, but they did have one major factor, Russell Westbrook. The MVP averaged a triple double and broke the record for most triple doubles in the regular season with forty-two. He also led his team to the playoffs despite being short handed when it came to talent on the roster.  This past summer the team did an amazing job in free agency adding key additions including New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony, and Indiana Pacers forward Paul George.

What do they bring to the team you ask? First let’s discuss Paul George, known for his scoring ability he can create shots from anywhere on the court. He also has incredible defense as the starters he’s faced against averages less than 20 points a game against him. Now Carmelo, brings OKC another elite scorer who happens to be a nine- time all-star and great rebounder. Melo can also pass the ball as we seen him average 11 assists on team U.S.A.

Now let’s talk about how they face against the competition. Last year OKC lost to the Houston Rockets in five games in the first round of the western conference playoffs.

With the added support of Paul George and Carmelo Anthony the Thunder should be a serious contender to compete with the other elite teams in the western conference like the San Antonio Spurs and the defending champion Golden State Warriors.  With these added additions the Thunder should be able to match up well with the defending champions with the defensive abilities of Paul George.  George should be able to cover sharp-shooter Klay Thompson on and off the ball which will allow for Westbrook to play on Curry and for Anthony to play on Kevin Durant. The x-factor in this case would be the Warriors all-star forward in Draymond Green who will typically cause major headaches for teams with his court awareness and his ability to stretch the floor with his 3-point shooting abilities.  Despite this, OKC should be in great shape to give the Warriors all that they can handle this year.  Watch out for those Thunder to win it all.
